Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, as the Premier League club begins to shape its squad under newly appointed permanent manager Michael Carrick. Multiple reports across Europe and Asia confirm the deal, with a fixed fee of around £35 million (€40.5m) plus add-ons that could push the total package towards €50 million. The 26-year-old, who was on Brazil’s preliminary World Cup roster, is expected to sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford with an option for a further season, and will join before pre-season training starts in July. The move, sealed after Ederson rejected interest from two other clubs, represents a statement of intent from a United side that finished third in the Premier League to secure a return to the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are closing in on a double defensive swoop as they seek to rebound from a trophyless campaign that saw head coach Álvaro Arbeloa depart. According to Italian and Spanish sources, Los Blancos have activated the €25 million release clause for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, which is valid only during the month of July. They are also on the verge of landing Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer, with personal terms reportedly already agreed. The combined outlay of around €20–25 million for the pair would represent a remarkably economical reinforcement, addressing the right-back vacancy created by the expected retirement of Dani Carvajal and adding depth in central defence.

In the Spanish capital, Atlético Madrid are fighting on several fronts to preserve their attacking firepower. Julián Álvarez, the Argentine forward who has excelled since joining from Manchester City, is the subject of renewed interest from Arsenal and Barcelona, despite the Catalan club earlier balking at his €100 million valuation. Atlético’s response has been to launch a charm offensive, offering an improved salary and a contract extension to 2030. Simultaneously, Diego Simeone is pushing to bring Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister into an already sizable Argentine contingent, though Real Madrid also view the midfielder as a priority. As insurance against Álvarez’s possible departure, Atlético have begun making inquiries about Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker currently on loan at Galatasaray.

Elsewhere, Nathaniel Brown, the 22-year-old German international left-back at Eintracht Frankfurt, has emerged as a target for a host of elite sides, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona. His consistently strong performances in an otherwise disappointing season for Frankfurt have made him one of the Bundesliga’s hottest properties. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Europe’s biggest clubs are moving early to avoid inflated post-tournament prices, setting the stage for a frenetic summer of negotiations.
